If your Google rankings look steady but enquiries from search feel thinner, AI answers may be part of the reason. People now get summaries at the top of the results page, ask follow-up questions in AI Mode, and search by voice or camera.
This doesn’t make SEO obsolete. Google says its AI search features are rooted in the same ranking and quality systems as regular Search. What has changed is what gets rewarded, how people search, and what you should measure.
- Basic SEO now decides whether you appear at all
AI Overviews and AI Mode draw on Google’s index. A page that can’t be crawled and indexed, or isn’t eligible to show a snippet, can’t appear in them. Search Console also has a “Search generative AI” control, available worldwide since August 2026, that sets whether your site is included. Inclusion is the default.
What to do: confirm nobody has switched that control to “exclude”, fix indexing errors, and make sure pages load quickly on mobile before paying for anything labelled “AI SEO”.
- Generic content is worth less than it was
Google separates “commodity” content, which repeats common knowledge, from content offering first-hand expertise. “10 tips for buying a flat” is commodity content. A Whitefield developer explaining what a delayed occupancy certificate means for buyers is not.
What to do: add what only your business knows: real cases, local pricing realities, your actual process, and named experts behind the advice.
- One question now triggers many searches
For complex questions, Google’s AI features can run several related searches in the background, which Google calls “query fan-out”. A parent researching engineering colleges might trigger searches about fees, placements, hostels and admission deadlines at once.
What to do: cover the whole decision on your pages, including costs, eligibility, timelines, comparisons and next steps. Don’t create a page for every variation of a question. Google says doing this to manipulate results can break its scaled content abuse policy, whether people or AI write the pages.
- Customers can now ask Google in Kannada, by voice or with a camera
Google expanded AI Mode to Kannada and six other Indian languages in October 2025, and added Kannada to Search Live, its voice-and-camera search, in March 2026. The IAMAI–Kantar Internet in India Report 2025 found 44% of India’s internet users have used AI-enabled features, including voice search, image search, chatbots and AI filters.
What to do: if customers describe their needs in Kannada, or mix languages, reflect that in your service descriptions, FAQs and Business Profile, written by fluent speakers rather than machine-translated.
- Your Google Business Profile can now feed AI answers
Google says Business Profiles and Merchant Center product feeds can help your business appear in its AI responses. Local rankings are still mainly based on relevance, distance and prominence. Reviews and links from other websites help with prominence, and you can’t pay for a better local ranking.
What to do:
- Keep categories, services, hours and photos accurate.
- Ask customers for reviews and reply to them. Google’s policies prohibit offering incentives or asking only happy customers.
- If you serve several areas of Bangalore, make sure your listed service areas match where you actually work.
- Images and video now help you get found
Google’s AI features can show images and videos alongside text.
What to do: use original photos of your site, clinic, campus or products, short demo videos, and descriptive captions and transcripts. Stock images usually add little.
- Most “AI SEO hacks” can be ignored
For Google Search, Google says you don’t need:
- llms.txt files or other special AI markup
- content “chunked” into tiny pieces
- pages rewritten specifically for AI
- a special schema for AI features
It also warns that chasing inauthentic mentions is less helpful than it seems. Structured data is still worth using because it helps pages qualify for rich results.
What to do: if a proposal leads with these tactics, ask what business result they should produce.
- You may get fewer clicks, but they can matter more
A Pew Research Center study of US Google users in March 2025 found people clicked a traditional result in 8% of visits when an AI summary appeared, against 15% without one. There’s no comparable Indian data yet, but people who click after reading a summary may already know the basics.
What to do: make your landing page answer the next question: price range, availability, credentials, and an easy way to call or message you.
- Measure AI visibility and what it earns
In June 2026, Google began rolling out a Search Console report showing how often your pages appear in AI Overviews and AI Mode. It shows impressions only and doesn’t separate the two features. Clicks from them sit within your standard search performance data.
What to do: connect search data to your CRM. Whether you work with an SEO agency in Bangalore or an in-house team, monthly reports should go beyond rankings to qualified leads, booked visits, cost per acquisition and revenue.
- Search starts the conversation, and follow-up closes it
Many businesses now continue search enquiries on WhatsApp: scheduling site visits, sending brochures, reminders and answering eligibility questions. It works best as a follow-up channel, not a replacement for being found.
Meta requires customers to opt in and limits how many marketing messages Indian users receive. India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, notified in November 2025, bring their main consent obligations into force around May 2027.
What to do: whether you build this yourself or hire a WhatsApp marketing agency in Bangalore, set up clear opt-ins now.
What this means for your next quarter
Start with low-cost fixes: the Search Console control, your Business Profile and indexing problems. Then improve the pages that bring enquiries so the clicks you get convert. Judge everything by qualified leads and revenue, not just impressions.
Frequently asked questions
How is AI search changing SEO for Bangalore businesses?
Google now answers many questions with AI summaries and AI Mode, including in Kannada. Your pages still need solid SEO to appear, but the rewards are shifting towards original expertise, accurate Business Profiles and pages that convert visitors who arrive closer to a decision.
Is SEO still worth investing in?
Yes. Google’s AI features draw on the same index and ranking systems as regular Search, so a site that isn’t crawlable, useful and trusted won’t appear in either. What changes is how you judge the return: leads and revenue, not rankings alone.
How can my business appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode?
Keep pages indexed and snippet-eligible, leave the Search Console control on “include”, publish content based on real expertise, and keep your Business Profile accurate. Google doesn’t guarantee inclusion.
Do I need a separate GEO or AEO strategy?
For Google, no. Google treats optimising for its AI features as SEO.
Should I create a page for every Bangalore neighbourhood I serve?
Only if each page has genuinely different information, such as local projects, timings or teams. Near-identical pages with only the area name changed can be treated as low-value doorway pages.
